One of the finest competitors available in this year’s draft, Alex Newhook of the Victoria Grizzlies offers a diverse repertoire of skill and speed, as he is projected to be among the best attacking forwards of the 2019 class. His size raises doubts about the degree to which he can marry offensive prowess with defensive responsibility at the professional level, but never rule the 18-year-old out of difficult puck battles and tricky situations.
He has faced lesser competition of late and showed some signs of struggle when left to confront more difficult opponents. Nonetheless, Newhook continues to demonstrate a penchant for hockey smarts — a fine trait, indeed, for a forward looking to boast his résumé in the modern game.
