1. Is Jason Garrett the right coach?

Garrett almost certainly isn’t the punchline that a lot of fans make him out to be. You don’t win as many games in the NFL as he has by accident. It’s still fair to point out that he’s had a lot of talent to work with during his tenure in Dallas.

This could easily boil down to a make or break season for the former Princeton star. He absolutely has the support of ownership, but Jones may be forced to break ties with his favorite son if Dallas misses the playoffs. Even an early postseason exit might be enough to convince Jones he needs to go with a bigger name on the sideline.

The real challenge in evaluating Garrett is that the regular season won’t be much of a barometer. He’s proven his ability to guide Dallas to division titles. The only real evidence he can use to boost his stock as a head coach is to pilot the Cowboys to a lengthy postseason run.

Next. Cowboys are in no hurry to give Ezekiel Elliott a new deal. dark

Choosing whether or not to commit to Garrett in the long-term is absolutely the biggest decision facing the Cowboys this season. It likely won’t be answered until the playoffs are done, but it’s still going to have a drastic impact on the direction of this franchise for years to come.
