NBA Free Agency 2019: 5 offseason targets for the Philadelphia 76ers
4. Jeremy Lamb, SG/SF
If the Charlotte Hornets re-sign Kemba Walker, they’ll likely plunge into luxury-tax territory. If he walks in free agency, they may opt to begin a rebuild.
Either way, Jeremy Lamb should be readily available on the free-agent market.
Lamb averaged a career-best 15.3 points on 44.0 percent shooting, 5.5 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.5 triples and 1.1. steals for the Hornets in 28.5 minutes per game this past season, and he just turned 27 at the end of May. As such, he might be out of the Sixers’ price range.
If other suitors offer eight-figure annual salaries, Philly won’t be able to compete with that unless one (or both) of Butler or Harris walk in free agency. But if Lamb is open to taking the non-taxpayer mid-level exception, he’d give the Sixers a much-needed steady source of offense off the bench.
Lamb has made the playoffs only twice in his seven NBA seasons, so he may savor the opportunity to go on a deep postseason run with the Sixers. They’ll likely face competition for his services and won’t offer him the opportunity to start unless JJ Redick walks in free agency, but he could emerge as a Sixth Man of the Year candidate in Philly.
