5 of the biggest NFL free agents remaining this offseason
By Jordan Foote
1. Michael Crabtree
Let’s get this out of the way: Michael Crabtree is set to turn 32 years old very early in the 2019 regular season. He’s not the highly-productive receiver he was in 2012 with San Francisco. He’s also not the Michael Crabtree he was three and four years later with Oakland. Those days are behind him.
He’s still a solid complementary piece, though. Posting similar numbers in each of the last two seasons (58 catches in 2017, 54 in 2018), it isn’t unreasonable to expect something close to that this season with another team. 600 yards a season is still a solid contribution.
On the other hand, going to a different team may not see Crabtree play the same role he did with the Raiders or Ravens. In the twilight of his career, perhaps he’ll be inclined to take a relegated role with a contending team in hopes of winning his first Super Bowl.
He won’t wow you with speed anymore, but Crabtree is a quality route runner and will bring valuable experience and leadership to an NFL locker room. Could this season be the swan song for his football career? We’ll find out the answer to that question here shortly.
This likely isn’t the last you’ve seen out of these players. Expect to see/hear their names swirled around in rumors throughout the remainder of the offseason.
