NHL Mock Draft: Let’s break down how the Top 10 picks will go
By Simon Vacca
9. Anaheim Ducks — Cole Caufield
DOB: Jan. 2, 2001 (age 18)
Position: RW
Shoots: R
Team: USNTDP — USHL
Height: 5-foot-7
Weight: 157 pounds
The best natural goal scorer of the 2019 class, Cole Caufield would be something of a steal for the Anaheim Ducks at ninth overall. Having tallied 72 goals in the 2018-19 campaign, the winger of USNTDP has been most often compared to Alex DeBrincat, as both players boast a common ability to net pucks like there is no tomorrow.
It would not be surprising to see the winger selected earlier — goals, after all, are an expensive commodity in the NHL — but the thought of him slipping is also within the realm of possibility. The Ducks should root for the draft to play through in this particular manner, as Caufield has the ability to serve as a valuable piece in what is shaping up to be a trying rebuild.
