Ever since Brett Favre took over as the starting quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, the organization has been blessed with have an All Pro caliber player under center. When Favre was done in Green Bay, he passed the torch to Aaron Rodgers, who is widely considered one of the best quarterbacks in the history of the game as well.
However, before Favre ever stepped onto the field to throw his first completion to himself, a man they called “The Majik Man” was viewed as the franchise quarterback. A tenth round pick in the 1987 NFL Draft out of Virginia, Don Majkowski had some solid moments as a member of the Packers, but was another guy who saw his career derailed by injury.
Majkowski spent the 1987 through 1992 NFL seasons in Green Bay, before finishing out his career with stints in Indianapolis and Detroit. After splitting time in 1987 and 1988 with Randy Wright, Majkowski took over as the starter in Green Bay, and it was his first full season as a starter where he really broke out as a legitimate franchise guy.
In 1989, Majkowski led the NFL with over 4,300 passing yards, while being named a 2nd Team All-Pro, and a Pro Bowler. He tore is rotator cuff in 1990, and was benched in 1991. In 1992, he regained his starting job, but tore up his ankle, was replaced by Favre, and the rest is Green Bay Packers history.
