Jacksonville Jaguars: Blake Bortles
The Jacksonville Jaguars made Blake Bortles the No. 3 overall selection in the 2014 NFL Draft, and the hope was that he would be their franchise quarterback for the next 15 seasons. A product of UCF, where he was the ACC Offensive Player of the Year during his time in college, Bortles had his moments in Jacksonville, but could never play consistent football.
For Bortles, his run as the starter in Jacksonville was filled with the highest of highs, and the lowest of lows, and most of them came within a 12 month period. After leading the Jaguars to the AFC Championship Game following the 2017 NFL season, Bortles was awarded with a new three-year extension, but was released by the team only 13 months later.
In that AFC title game against the New England Patriots, Bortles had led his Jaguars to a ten-point lead heading into the fourth quarter, and looked to be on their way to the Super Bowl. However, Tom Brady did what Tom Brady does, and for Bortles, it was the beginning of a steep decline with the franchise that drafted him.
During the 2018 NFL season, Bortles struggled mightily, and the Jaguars in turn were one of the worst teams in football. In fact, towards the end of the season, the team decided to bench Bortles in favor of Cody Kessler, which proved to be the end of his run with the franchise. For Jaguars fans, they had seen enough.
