16. Adam Jones

Five-time All-Star Adam Jones caused a bit of a kerfuffle last summer when he refused to waive his no-trade clause for the Baltimore Orioles. Jones had more than earned that right, and wanted to stay in Baltimore to finish out the season and guarantee consistent playing time that would hopefully help him make a case for himself in free agency. No offers materialized over the winter, and the 33-year-old was forced to accept a one-year deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Jones had seen his offensive numbers fall off gradually over his final three seasons with the Orioles, and he is no longer an elite defensive center fielder, but he has more than proven so far with Arizona that there is plenty left in the tank. He is hitting .275/.323/.488 with 12 home runs and 38 RBI. Through 63 games, Jones has nearly matched his 2018 home-run total.

On a one-year deal worth only $3 million, Jones is the perfect trade candidate for a contender looking for an extra punch in the outfield. After losing Andrew McCutchen and likely Odubel Herrera, one team that could be taking a look at Jones is the Philadelphia Phillies. That’s an interesting turn, because the Phillies were one of the teams making the most aggressive run at him last July.

This year, Jones will be traded wherever the Diamondbacks can get the best return, and he will likely embrace it. He has proven he still has a place in the big leagues and will get to play for a contender deep into the season.
