2020 NBA Mock Draft: Looking to the future after a chaotic 2019 draft
Antoine is just a gamble here, as we liked what we saw from him at the McDonald’s All-American Game this year. He also looks like a definite Orlando draft pick, and with the Magic coming off a year in which they selected Chuma Okeke about 15 picks higher than he was expected to go, their brand is undefeated. If there’s a long, athletic dude on the board anywhere near Orlando’s draft slot, he’ll be drafted by the Magic.
All this to say they are likely to be bullish on someone like Antoine, as is the rest of the league. His speed against other top prospects in the McDonald’s game was like a fighter jet flying amongst paper airplanes, and he maintained enough control in space to stop on a dime and make difficult floaters.
Villanova is turning the page to a new chapter in their reign over college basketball and will look to get on track with Antoine quickly after the five-star recruit Jahvon Quinerly struggled to acclimate to the program last season. Quinerly is now at Alabama and mainstays Phil Booth and Eric Paschall are gone. The spotlight is on Antoine.
If Antoine can defend this year, he will stay on the floor in college and his draft stock will remain high. The youngster can use this year to put on weight and develop his ball skills, then likely test the draft waters next spring. If all goes according to plan, there will be interest in him in the lottery.
