4. Parks and Recreation

Members: Over the years, Pawnee’s Parks and Recreation department lost and gained a couple employees or two, but the heart of Indiana’s government was Leslie (Amy Poehler), Ben (Adam Scott), Ann (Rashida Jones), Tom (Aziz Ansari), Ron (Nick Offerman), April (Aubrey Plaza), Andy (Chris Pratt), Donna (Retta), Chris (Rob Lowe), and Jerry/Larry/Garry (Jim O’Heir). Much like The Office and 30 Rock, sitcom friend groups on workplace comedies are a little… unconventional.

Memorable moments: From the second Leslie Knope tumbled down Pawnee’s dangerous eyesore of a pit, Parks and Recreation cranked out nothing but classic moments for the hardest working local government employees in the game. Not only did they eventually get that pit turned into a park, but they saved JJ’s Diner, organized an incredible unity concert, and mourned the loss of Pawnee’s greatest symbol of hope, a miniature horse named Li’l Sebastian.

Running gags: You already know the greatest running gag from Parks and Recreation because it has since become a common phrase in the English vernacular: “Treat yourself!” Well, if we’re being technical, it’s “treat yo’self” as coined by Tom and Donna during their extravagant (and often reckless) retail therapy shopping sprees. Other recurring jokes that define the Parks crew are the Eagleton rivalry, Andy’s Burt Macklin alter ego, Leslie’s outlandish compliments for Ann, the love for breakfast food, Jean-Ralphio and Mona Lisa, and the constant ragging on Jerry.

Key episodes: “Hunting Trip,” “Telethon,” “Ron & Tammy: Part 2,” “Andy and April’s Fancy Party,” “Li’l Sebastian,” “Pawnee Rangers,” “The Trial of Leslie Knope,” “The Debate,” “Women in Garbage,” “Leslie and Ben,” “Ann and Chris,” “Leslie and Ron,” “One Last Ride.”
