19. My Boys

Members: Unfortunately, most sitcom fans are probably unfamiliar with My Boys, which ran for four seasons on TBS from 2006 to 2010. The series followed single sportswriter PJ Franklin (Jordana Spiro) as she looked for love in Chicago with her loyal group of male friends Brendan (Reid Scott), Mike (Jamie Kahler), Kenny (Michael Bunin), Bobby (Kyle Howard), Andy (Jim Gaffigan), and her long-suffering best friend Stephanie (Kellee Stewart).

Memorable moments: My Boys truly goes down in television history as one of the most underrated comedies of all time, making Crowley’s gang one of the most underrated sitcom friend groups of all time. It’s impossible not to fall in love with this group because they have such incredible chemistry from the pilot. From poker nights at PJ’s apartment to spring training in Arizona, they’ve done it all together. And their annual board game decathlon? That’s the stuff of a legendary friend group.

Running gags: Unlike other sitcoms, My Boys didn’t employ a ton of small recurring elements in its narrative like a “douchebag jar” or a clever way of giving the finger. However, there were a ton of inside baseball characteristics to the series that carved out its own space for itself. The thematic references to sports, PJ’s poker nights, Kenny and Stephanie’s feud, and Andy complaining about his (temporarily) unseen wife are the comedic constants that always brought the laughs.

Key episodes: “Team Chemistry,” “Clubhouse Cancer,” “Managers,” “When Heroes Fall From Grace,” “The Shirt Contest,” “John, Cougar, Newman Camp,” “Decathlon: Part Deux,” “Mike-Fest,” “My Men.”
