2. Brooklyn Nets

The Nets have spent years living in the shadows of New York, but now they’re the most functional franchise in the area. That, coupled with their ability to sign two max free agents this summer put them in a terrific position to make a compelling pitch to Durant and his people.

Brooklyn has two advantages over the aforementioned Clippers. First, and most importantly, they’re in the driver’s seat to reel in Kyrie Irving. There’s a strong sense inside NBA circles that believe Irving and Durant have a desire to play together. If the Nets can ink Irving early in the process, he could turn into a big recruiter for Brooklyn.

The second advantage the Nets have is the young talent on their roster. Their team is primed and ready to take on superstars and surround them with talented role players. Jarrett Allen is a young big man who can anchor a defense. Wings like Joe Harris, and Caris LeVert can help space the floor. Throw in Spencer Dinwiddie as a quality point guard and it’s easy to see this team becoming elite in a hurry.

The one problem the Nets have is that their supporting cast just doesn’t measure up to Durant’s current situation. He knows he can win multiple titles with his teammates in Golden State. Brooklyn officials will be challenged to convince him that the same opportunity exists with the Nets.
