13. Washington Huskies

Biggest Trap Game: at Arizona (Oct. 12)

Under the watch of head coach Chris Petersen, the Washington Huskies have experienced quite a bit of sustained success. In fact, you could argue that their 10-4 showing that saw them win the Pac-12 Championship was actually below the standard that Petersen has set in Seattle. Having said that, he has one of his toughest tasks to date ahead of him in the 2019 college football season.

Petersen and the Huskies must replace 13 starters from last year’s team. One of the starters lost is quarterback Jake Browning, who was a long-time starter for Washington. However, his replacement, Jacob Eason, is the biggest point of optimism for the 2019 Huskies. Eason, a Georgia transfer, is a former 5-star recruit with talent bursting at the seams. If he can put it together in Seattle, he can be a force.

While the offensive line remains intact and one of the strengths for the Huskies, the skill position players and, in essence, the entire defense are big question marks for this team. Nine of the 13 starters gone from Washington heading into 2019 were on that side of the ball, leaving them with gaping holes to fill and plenty of production to replace.

Even still, Washington has the talent to compete for the Pac-12 title once again — but they’ll need to avoid getting upset by Khalil Tate and Arizona to make that happen. The matchup in Tuscon comes after a road trip to Stanford and ahead of games against the other two leading Pac-12 contenders, Oregon and Utah. With that placement and with a high-upside opponent, the Huskies can’t take that matchup lightly.
