3. Jay Bruce

Philadelphia Phillies right fielder Jay Bruce has reached the point of his career where he is essentially passed around from contender to contender in search of a power bat each season. He has been traded four times since the 2016 deadline, and has already been on the move once this season from the Seattle Mariners to the Phillies. The 32-year-old is off to a hot start in Philadelphia and has shown an ability to get hot for extended stretches throughout his career.

Bruce has become a hot commodity at the trade deadline thanks to his ability to hit for power from the left-handed side. He doesn’t offer much in terms of batting average or on-base percentage — it’s all about the long ball. Bruce has already hit 21 this year, surpassing the 300-homer mark for his career in the process.

The Phillies are happy with Bruce right now, and will need to keep giving him consistent playing time in the absence of Andrew McCutchen and Odubel Herrera. He doesn’t exactly fit the team’s long-term plan, and may be shopped again if the Phillies fall out of contention.

For the Yankees, Bruce may be a bit redundant in their lineup, but he is a left-handed threat and would mash plenty of home runs into the short porch in right field. They have tried to acquire him in the past, and nearly reached a deal with the Mets in 2017 before he ultimately wound up in Cleveland and hit two home runs in the ALDS against the Yankees.
