3. Madison Bumgarner

As is his right, Madison Bumgarner has given the San Francisco Giants a very detailed list of teams for which he will exercise his no-trade clause. The list includes virtually every playoff contender from both leagues. It’s a smart move from Bumgarner, who will control his own fate if the Giants do decide it’s time to part ways with the franchise icon who helped lead them to three World Series titles.

Bumgarner’s performances in the postseason are the stuff of MLB lore, but he has also a four-time All-Star with two top-five NL Cy Young finishes. The left-hander has a career record of 114-90 with a 3.10 ERA. Bumgarner has mostly been overshadowed by Clayton Kershaw and Max Scherzer in the regular season, but he has the rings.

The left-hander is only 29 years old, but there is a lot of wear on his arm. He had already topped 1,700 innings during the regular season and has an additional 102.1 innings of work in the playoffs. Last year, he missed time with an arm injury for the first time in his 11-year career. His time on the shelf in 2017 was self-inflicted.

The Giants need to move Bumgarner at the deadline this year, and should be able to convince him to accept a trade. He has not quite been in peak form this season, pitching to a 4.21 ERA in 17 starts, but he does remain confident he will be able to dial up a vintage MadBum for the postseason.
