AEW Fyter Fest: Recap, takeaways and what’s next

Christopher Daniels vs. CIMA
The opening match of the main show featured Christopher Daniels of SCU going one-on-one with CIMA, who has a match at Fight for the Fallen in a few weeks against Kenny Omega, so a victory for CIMA probably would make the most sense here.
These two had an excellent back-and-forth contest with quite a few nearfalls. CIMA and Daniels know each other very well — CIMA is essentially one of Daniels’ mentors — and they were able to put on a fantastic matchup together.
The finish saw CIMA hitting a pretty vicious-looking Meteora from the top rope to pick up the victory. Both men showed respect to one another after the matchup. A really good way to kick off the main show.
Riho vs. Nyla Rose vs. Yuka Sakazaki
Up next we had a women’s triple threat match between Riho, Nyla Rose and Yuka Sakazaki, who were all featured on Double or Nothing back in May. This match was certainly a showcase for Rose. While Riho and Sakazaki got good spots to shine, it was really done to show just how much of a monster Rose can be.
But the match itself was also done to show her character’s inexperience as well. There were several points where Rose could have easily won the match, but instead chose to dish out more punishment instead. Several times it came back to bite he,r as Riho and Sakazaki got some offense in to turn the tide within the match.
In the end, however, Rose’s insistence to deliver more pain instead of going for the win cost her the victory ,as Riho got a quick pin on the unsuspecting powerhouse. Post-match, Rose lost it and attacked Riho. Sakazaki saved Riho from further harm but for some reason, Riho didn’t appreciate being saved and pushed her away. There might be a story between these two in Japan that would have allowed this to make more sense, but since the commentators didn’t touch upon it we’re not really sure what to think.
In the end, Rose still came out looking fantastic and really didn’t lose anything beyond the match itself, via what seemed like a fluke in a triple-threat scenario. Hopefully, they get Rose in the ring with Awesome Kong one on one before the year is over. That would be a fun match to see.
