Receiving Ability

Aaron Jones also has also shown an incredible ability to catch the football, both in college and as a Packer. He shows correct hand placement, with his thumbs together and fingers pointed in the air. He catches the ball away from his body, preventing it from bouncing off his chest. And since he catches it cleanly away from his body, he doesn’t have to pause to collect it but can keep going at full speed, leading to more big plays in the passing game.

Check out this catch which shows his correct technique, first in full speed and then in slow motion.

This final play shows many of Jones’s special traits: excellent catching technique, patience to wait for his blockers, good vision to choose the correct hole, acceleration, and good contact balance to stay on his feet through a hit. It does not even show his ability to change direction at top speed, which may be his most impressive trait. But you can get a feel in this one play for the explosive potential Aaron Jones brings to every play he is a part of.

Many who follow the Packers closely have not been able to figure out why they have given Jamaal Williams so many carries when they have Aaron Jones on the roster. If they shift the workload toward Jones even moderately this season, he has the potential to jump into the elite running back echelon.

Next. Wish List: Dante Pettis. dark

That would make him an excellent third-round pick in fantasy drafts, with potential to perform at the level of a first-round pick.
