MLB DFS Pitching Primer: Top GPP Pivot

Eduardo Rodriguez (8.1k FD, 8.7k DK) @ Detroit

If anyone read my FanDuel NBA Breakdowns you’ll understand this reference. E-Rod is the D’Angelo Russell of MLB DFS for me. I spent several months refusing to believe that D-Lo was a good play in NBA DFS and when I finally would write him up he would bust – every time.  I refused to write up E-Rod for the first two months of MLB season this year and sure enough the first time I did, he busted. Every time I swear him off and promise myself I won’t recommend him again, but both sites continue to keep his price fair and he keeps popping up with these great matchups. I…have…to…do it. I’m going to roll some E-Rod tonight.

Now you can automatically fade him if you believe in the “Thunder Dan never gets E-Rod right” narrative (but you also should know that narratives are dumb and I never play them).  From a matchup standpoint, it doesn’t get much better than the Tigers and their 26% K rate. E-Rod has a healthy 24% strikeout rate of his own this year.

If you’re worried about the Tigers owning a platoon advantage with their bevy of right-handed hitters, you shouldn’t because E-Rod is a reverse splits pitcher who is actually better against righties. He does still give up a good amount of hard contact and walks a few too many for my taste, but you can’t argue with the upside here at this price. We saw him perform well in this spot already once this season back in late April when he struck out 7 Tigers over 6 innings while allowing only one run.
