MLB DFS Pitching Primer: Cheap Arm/SP2

Brendan McKay (7.1k FD, 8k DK) vs. New York Yankees

If you missed the debut of this 23-year-old rookie (on the mound, he also is being used as a hitter, too) all he did was pitch six scoreless innings and allowed only two baserunners against Texas. He only struck out three Rangers, but otherwise was efficient and impressive in his first outing and was allowed to throw 81 pitches.

Picking on the Yankees with a rookie in his second start is not usually something I would recommend but there are a number of things that have me loving McKay today (hey, that rhymed). First of all, this is no ordinary rookie. McKay is a top 10 prospect in all of baseball who has absolutely dominated on the mound at every level of the minors. His three strikeouts last week were fluky low as he’s been a 10 K/9 guy all throughout his minor league career.

He’s pitching at home in a good park for pitchers and the Yankees offense is much less dangerous outside of Yankee Stadium. They are also significantly worse against left-handed pitching this season as they rank in the bottom third on the league in ISO and wOBA and carry a 25% K rate.

Don’t be afraid of targeting this rookie tonight even in a tough matchup. He’s my favorite point-per-dollar value on FanDuel. Hopefully, he doesn’t get too much buzz today from other touts and end up popular.
