Best Unsigned NFL Free Agents with Fantasy Potential – Running Backs

1. Jay Ajayi – His back to back 200 yard games seem like a long time ago. Attitude and injuries have derailed a promising career. He suffered his ACL injury in September, he should be healthy enough to provide some team with depth.

Best Fit – Miami Dolphins

Yes, his time in Miami did not end well. But Adam Gase is no longer there. The Dolphins need someone to pair with Kenyon Drake who is best used as a change of pace, receiving back. Kalen Ballage may or may not develop into an NFL player.

2. Alex Collins – He had a breakout season with Baltimore in 2017, nearing 1,000 yards. Big things were expected from him last year, but his yard per carry average went down a full yard. Of the field trouble make his availability murky, but he’ll be turning only 25 as the season starts.

Best Fit – Houston Texans

Lamar Miller played better than expected, but the Texans could use depth behind him until D’onta Foreman proves he can stay healthy. Collins is a better player than Alfred Blue, whom he would replace.

3. Jeremy Hill – After an impressive rookie season with the Bengals, 1124 yards, Hill’s numbers declined every season. Before his ACL tear with the Patriots, he was classified as a sleeper. At only 26, there is potential for a rebound with the right team.

Best Fit – Tampa Bay Buccaneers

As a team, Tampa had the worst running attack in the league last year. 2nd rounder Ronald Jones was a disappointment and Peyton Barber is best suited in a time-share. Hill has the highest potential for a rebound of anyone in the free agent RB group.

4. Corey Grant – He didn’t get a lot of opportunities in Jacksonville, but he’s always made the most of the ones he has gotten. He’s only had 81 career carries but has 2 runs of over 50 yards and a 5.6 per carry average.

Best Fit – Kansas City Chiefs

Grant has big play potential and was misused in Jacksonville. Nobody gets the most of offensive talent better than Head Coach Andy Reid. They brought aboard Carlos Hyde, also from the Jaguars, but Grant is worth a look.
