The Bachelorette recap: Jed’s mom and sister were clearly big fans of Haley
The Bachelorette’s hometown date episode is one of the final episodes in a season. Here is how all four dates went for Hannah.
The Bachelorette‘s hometown dates are the second most important episode (the first being the seeex). Pete and Tyler both had strong showings, while the drama came from Jed (whose mom does not like Hannah) and Luke (who a certain someone is still brainwashed by).
Family is everything and Hannah, if you’re reading this, you have two perfect men to choose from in Pete and Tyler. You have two completely awful choices as well … Don’t pick those other guys.
They’re teasing the Luke/Hannah fight about sex like this season’s fence jump, so don’t expect to see it in this episode. There was a little more teaser at the end though, so next week should be good. Let’s get into the hometown recaps.
Pilot Pete’s hometown
Pete kicked off the hometown date with a huge flex, taking Hannah for a ride in his Mercedes-Benz on the way to the airport. He forgot to take the condom out of his center console, though. Whoops! Pilots get laid, no shock there. Once there, he had his airplane ready to go and the two took a romantic flight around his hometown.
Pete is the best. He’s always so happy to spend time with Hannah, even when they aren’t doing really cool stuff like flying his plane. Remember when we all thought she chose the wrong pilot? We’ve come a long way since then (sorry, Chasen).
Pete is one of the nicest guys ever, his family is great, his brother is nice and they all seem to love Hannah. In other words, Pete isn’t going to win. This is Becca and Blake all over again. He’s going to be crushed and we’re all going to hate watching it.
Tyler’s hometown
Like Pete, Tyler is pretty damn perfect. He took Hannah out on a boat tour of Jupiter before introducing her to his family. His family features America’s new father, Jeff.
There was nothing wrong with Hannah and Tyler’s date. His family made a great impression, they spent an amazing day together and most importantly, Tyler spoke to Hannah as an equal, not as a prize in a carnival game that he was really trying to win (take notes, Luke). The two even made out in the back of the poor Bachelorette chauffeur’s car, which had to be awkward for the driver.
It was Tyler’s dad who stole the show, though, both for being a great person and giving some of the best dad advice in Bachelorette history.
Luke’s hometown
For someone who hates his past, Luke sure likes bringing it up. Is it truly a Bachelorette episode if Luke isn’t telling us he spent years chasing sex? Kind of an awkward conversation to have in front of your family and friends, no? If Hannah wants to spend her life being controlled by an emotionally abusive guy who will blame all his wrongdoings on God’s lessons for him, boy has she found herself a man.
The 15 people on the planet who actually like Luke were all present in this episode. The date started at his church and moved to his house, where his family questioned why Luke was still on the show. Luke’s brother was sure to let Hannah know how fast he’ll apologize for all of the horrible things he’ll do to her. Good sell.
Hannah is throwing shaaaaade at Luke online so obviously she’s seeing how bad this all looks in retrospect. Props for being self-aware, Hannah!
Luke told Hannah he loved her, which he also did in Week 1 so she knows he really means it. They make out a bit before she told us she was falling in love with him. Rough look for Hannah but at least she knows what we now know.
Jed’s hometown
This guy is relentless with his music career. Most dates were focused on Hannah. Jed wanted to sing some more. The two went straight to Jed’s recording studio so he could pump out another brutal single for all of us to enjoy.
How awkward is it going to be when Jed’s other girlfriends realize that Hannah wrote the song he’s singing to them. Like, “Wait … when were we on Cobblestone Street, Jed?”
Jed’s family tanked his date. It’s clear they were all confused as to which of his girlfriends was coming over today and Hannah was not the one they were hoping for. Jed’s mom must still be close with Haley … or the other girl.

His sister wasn’t much better. She gave Hannah nothing but silence and then told her than Jed falling in love with her wasn’t a good thing. Granted, they probably heard all of this “I love her” stuff about Haley a month ago. It’s hard to blame them for being skeptical.
Jed’s family wants him to focus on his music. Did I miss the part where you couldn’t pursue your musical dreams as an unemployed boyfriend while your super successful wife does all of the financial heavy lifting? Isn’t Jed just the lowlife at the start of every rom-com?

The Bachelorette rose ceremony
Hannah changed up the rules of the game and decided she wanted to test drive all four remaining men. She pulled out a fourth rose and in doing so, let all of us down (For the last time, chill out — next week will be good). I would say this is an all time great move from Hannah and this season’s ongoing theme of comparing … uhm … bananas, but another week of Luke is just too depressing.
The two roses brought out for Luke and Jed gave us the most scripted moment of this season. The suffering is almost over, Bachelorette fans. It’ll be well worth the wait to see Hannah tell Luke off in seven short days. See you all next week for what is now being dubbed “the windmill episode!”
The Bachelorette airs Mondays at 8:00 p.m. ET on ABC.
