4. Anthony Barr gets eight sacks

The news isn’t all bad for the Vikings pass rush next season. Hunter’s production will fall off, but others will benefit from all the attention he’s going to receive. Specifically, look for Barr to finally emerge as the pass rushing force many fans have always wanted him to be.

Getting to eight sacks won’t be easy for the 27-year-old linebacker. His career high mark is just four, and that came during his rookie season. He isn’t blessed with electric athleticism off the edge.

It’s also fair to point out that Zimmer and his defensive coaching staff haven’t always put Barr in position to pressure the quarterback. He’s been asked to do a ton of things throughout his time in the NFL. Vikings fans should expect for Barr’s role to be simplified this season. More opportunities to rush the passer should lead to a healthy increase in Barr’s sack total.

The best use of Barr would be to line him up next to Hunter on passing downs. That way opposing offenses can’t double-team them both with their blocking schemes. Barr will see a ton of work against over-matched tight ends and running backs in that scenario. He could be primed for a career season in 2019.
