SEC football fans as Michael Scott gifs, Vlad Jr. was robbed, cuckoo for Coco Gauff, World Cup glory
More colleges in trouble, SEC football fans as Michael Scott gifs, Zion Williamson’s debut, cuckoo for Coco, World Cup glory and how to make the Home Run Derby fun again.
SEC football fans as Michael Scott
Now for something more fun. Everyone likes gifs. Everyone likes The Office. SEC football fans are the loudest collective in the sport. So I combined all three into “How SEC fans feel about the upcoming season as told through Michael Scott gifs.” I think I nailed it.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was robbed in Home Run Derby
Pete Alonso won the Home Run Derby but this will be remembered as Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s coming out party. The Blue Jays rookie hit a record 29 in the first round and followed it up with an epic 40 in the semifinals to beat Joc Peterson after triple overtime. It was the greatest round of Home Run Derby history. They kept dropping bombs and I didn’t want it to end. They should have stopped it right then and there and given Vladdy Jr. the trophy. He went out and hit a record 22 in the finals but Alonso hit 23 to win. Guerrero hit a total of 91 after setting records for most home runs in every round and still lost to Alonso who hit a total of 57. MLB has to fix this. They tweaked the derby a few years ago to the running clock and it’s made every second matter. Now they need to make every home run matter.
Zion Williamson’s Summer League debut
Welp, Zion Williamson didn’t waste much time getting started on his NBA highlight-reel. In his Summer League debut, the No. 1 pick ripped the ball out of the hands of Kevin Knox who grabbed the rebound and promptly stuffed it through the rim. Zion basically son’d him on this play and Knox has to move out of the country after this public embarrassment.

Cuckoo for Coco Gauff
What were you doing the summer you were 15 years old? Chances are you weren’t making it to the second week of Wimbledon like Coco Gauff just accomplished. I was sleeping until noon and trying to get a ride to the mall when I was 15. Gauff was the youngest woman to qualify for Wimbledon in the Open Era (since 1968), beat her idol Venus Williams in the first round and advanced to the round of 16 before falling to Simona Halep. A remarkable run and just the beginning of what looks like a bright career. Expect to hear Coco Gauff’s name for the next 15 years.
World Cup glory
The USWNT went back-to-back as World Cup champions and never trailed for one second the entire run while setting the record for most goals. Alex Morgan, Megan Rapinoe, Julie Ertz, Rose Lavelle and the entire team was so fun to watch and easy to root for. They are what makes America great. The way they worked together to achieve a common goal with a heavy dose of swag and unflinching confidence was exhilarating. They talked the talk and walked the walk. 20 years after the 1999 team made history, U.S. women’s soccer might be our greatest export as a nation. Now pay them as much as the perennial disappointing USWMT!
