Fantasy Football Wish List: How good is Vance McDonald?
By Kevin Scott
The final verdict
Vance McDonald is currently being drafted in the 9th round of PPR redraft leagues, behind tight ends such as David Njoku and T.J. Hockenson. While Njoku has intriguing physical tools and lots of potential, he has yet to truly break out in the NFL. He may be a few years away still. Hockenson also has enormous upside, but as a rookie is very unlikely to give fantasy owners a return on their investment in redraft leagues. Drafting those players is a risky proposition.

Vance McDonald, however, already broke out. He had 50 catches for 610 yards and 4 touchdowns last season, very solid numbers for a tight end. He did it with Antonio Brown and Juju Smith-Schuster on his team, players who received 168 and 166 targets respectively. He also did it while splitting time fairly evenly with Jesse James.
With the change in his situation, I believe McDonald will jump up into the top 5 tight ends this season. He should be drafted in the 7th or 8th rounds, and you can grab him there in virtually every draft. This also enables you to load up on running backs and receivers in the early rounds of your draft, providing you a huge advantage over the other players who draft a tight end early.
I encourage you to draft Vance McDonald with confidence in your fantasy leagues this season.
Let’s close with one more play, the most entertaining play from Vance last season. It again shows his strength, speed, and tackle-breaking ability.
Mr. McDonald, you have made my wish list.
