MLB DFS Pitching Gems Of The Day July 12: Welcome Back With Gerrit Cole
MLB DFS Pitching Plays
Domingo German – Another pitcher that has a lot of upside, except he comes with slightly more risk than Cole. Domingo will be pitching at home against the Blue Jays, who have the seventh-highest k rate in the league at 24.4%. The righties in this lineup will have a good bit of strikeouts, with Teoscar, Vlad, and Grichuk in the projected lineup. I will be worried about how many fly-balls this team can hit, but the number of strikeouts should be able to balance out him giving up one, or two home runs.
Pitch Mix – German throws a lot of curves, around 40% of the time while decreasing his fastball usage in his most recent start, and increasing the sinker usage. This is important because the pitch is generating 75% GB, and a much lower ISO compared to the fastball which was over .200 the past two seasons. His curve gets good whiffs at over 40%, the change is also effective against LHH. It will be interesting to see if this trend continues with the sinker, because this may be the ticket for Domingo to limit the runs.
