24. New York Mets, 40-50, 4th in the NL East

Pete Alonso and Jeff McNeil are a fun 1-2 punch at the top of the Mets lineup and should be pieces to build around in the future. However, the Mets have fallen way out of contention this season as their pitching has continued to fail them. Currently, only Jaco deGrom and Jason Vargas have sub 4.00 ERA’s on the season, and while Noah Syndergaard just came off the IL, his 4.68 ERA and inconsistent play aren’t something Mets fans are dying to see right now.

But, despite all his shortcomings this season, there is still interest from other teams in the 26-year-old Syndergaard. With rookie GM Brodie Van Wagenen feeling the heat from his poor off-season moves, it sounds like he is at least listening to offers for Syndergaard and fellow young pitch Zach Wheeler. Moving one of their veteran bats or even someone like Vargas might make sense, but trading Syndergaard when his value is at an all-time low doesn’t make sense right now.

23. Chicago White Sox, 42-44, 3rd in the AL Central

White Sox rookie Eloy Jiminez loves facing his former team, smashing another homer against the Cubs this past weekend. Jose Abreu, Lucas Giolito, and James McCann represented the team in the All-Star game, which was great to see for a guy like Giolito who’s been lights out for Chicago all season. But the focus is still on the future for the South Side of Chicago, as prospects become closer and closer to finally making their debuts.

Top pitching prospect Dylan Cease made his MLB debut earlier last week, throwing five solid innings of work, add hopefully another reliable starter alongside Giolito for the rest of 2019. OF prospect Luis Robert was promoted to Triple-A right before the All-Star break as well, giving Sox fans another name to watch before the end of the season. But with the team sitting two games below .500 and 12.5 games back in the division, the Sox are just waiting for the future to finally be the present. But man, is that future promising.
