MLB DFS Pitching Primer: Cash Game Ace (Main)

Charlie Morton (11.5k FD, 11.8k DK) @ Baltimore

Another slate, another Tampa pitcher to pencil into your dummy lineup. “Ground Chuck” has been simply awesome lately and is enjoying what could end up being his best pro season when it’s all over. The former Pirate and Astros is carrying a career-best 31% K rate this year and is sporting a nifty 51% GB rate. His ERA has dropped to 2.32 and he’s allowed only one earned run in each of his last two starts.

One of those starts was against these same Orioles as he struck out 12 of them over seven innings back on July 2. It feels weird to see Morton as the highest-priced pitcher on both sites on a slate with Chris Sale and Patrick Corbin. But the matchup and current form make him worthy of such a lofty price.

The Rays hitters pounded out 16 runs last night and once this line gets set Morton should be a pretty large favorite. He has a lot of win equity here and a ton of upside. I see no reason not to lock him into your cash games and then decide which other aces you want to get some exposure to in GPPs.
