MLB DFS Pitching Primer: Top GPP Pivot

Lucas Giolito (9.1k FD, 11.2k Dk) @ Kansas City

Giolito has been one of the feel-good stories in baseball in the first half. He is enjoying a breakout season and posted some great numbers this year while racking up an 11-3 record and posting a 30% strikeout rate. However, he has been scuffling lately, allowing 15 earned runs over his last 19 innings and failing to pitch more than 6 innings in any of his last four starts.

Now, we may have to cut him a little slack as those four starts were against good offenses (Cubs twice, Red Sox, and Twins) but there’s still definitely some room for concern when you see a guy go from being totally dominant to pretty mediocre that quickly. I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt tonight and focus more on the larger body of work that he’s done this year.

I think he bounces back in a big way tonight against a KC team that he has absolutely owned this season. Giolito is 3-0 against the Royals with a 1.80 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 25 innings. He’s a tad overpriced on Draftkings, but on FanDuel he makes a great pivot off Paxton for GPPs for only 100 dollars more.
