British Open 2019: 5 dark horse picks who could win The Open Championship
3. Andy Sullivan (150-1)
Fans in the United States may not be too familiar with Andy Sullivan given the fact that he hasn’t played in America much at all. In fact, the last PGA Tour event that the 33-year old Englishman participated in was back in October 2018 in the World Golf Championships-HSBC Champions event. For what it’s worth, a third round 79 and final round 77 sunk a solid start and dropped him to tied for 62nd.
Since that time, though, Sullivan has been making his bones on the European Tour and putting forth some solid efforts. Since finish 70th at the Oman Open in early March, Sullivan has seven finishes inside the top 30 in his last nine tournaments played, including four finishes inside the top 15 and two top-10 finishes. Needless to say, he’s been a new golfer since March.
Most impressively, Sullivan has been showing off his strong form quite recently as he comes into the British Open. Two weeks ago, the 33-year old made a magnificent run at the Irish Open and wound up finishing tied for second. While he wasn’t in contention last week at the Scottish Open, he was still solid as he finished tied for 28th.
Given the form of Sullivan this season and the way that he’s been performing on links courses in recent weeks, how could you not give him a look? The odds are great for him should he win The Open Championship and, given his play of late, he may have a viable shot of shocking the world and doing that.
