Daily Fantasy Golf: FanDuel Picks – The 148th Open Championship
Daily Fantasy Golf: FanDuel PGA – Low Tier Picks ($9,000-$10,000)
Graeme McDowell – $9,700 – (Cash/GPP)
I actually think McDowell is a tad overpriced here due to the fact that he has missed two straight cuts coming in. However, I think it is safe to say that once G-Mac punched his ticket to the 148th Open Championship just over a month ago, when it looked like he had zero chance of doing so when 2019 began, he has been playing a little loose.
McDowell was the 238th ranked golfer in the OWGR to start the year, but a win in the alternate event the Puntacana Corales Championship followed by a T-7 at the Valero Texas Open got him into the PGA Championship.
Prior to his two missed cuts on the Euro Tour at the Scottish and Irish Opens the last couple of weeks, McDowell T-8 at the RBC Canadian Open, and was able to follow that with a T-16 at the U.S. Open. I think he may end up a popular cash play this week, but even though he has more experience here at Royal Portrush than anyone else in this field, the shaky recent form does have me a little hesitant. For that reason, I think my next target is a better cash game play, but I will definitely be using McDowell in GPP’s.
Rafa Cabrera Bello – $9,300 – (Cash)
Those of us that play PGA FanDuel every week may be in for a treat on this one, especially if you do not play on DraftKings and have no idea what I am getting at. Back when I first ventured into fantasy golf a few years back, I was a game log only guy, making good enough lineups before I even knew content like this existed. It worked sometimes but it was mostly bad, but one golfer I no doubt would have skipped looking at FanDuel game logs alone this week, is Rafa Cabrera Bello.
Don’t get me wrong, RCB has been consistent enough on the PGA Tour alone making nine straight cuts to garner some cash consideration, but the fact that his highest finish was a T-16 at the RBC Heritage and it was the only time he cracked the top-25 in that span is nothing to really get excited about.
What you won’t see on the FanDuel game logs is what Rafa has done on the European Tour over the last month, and now that IS something to be excited about. After weekend struggles led to a T-65 finish at the U.S. Open, Cabrera Bello took his game to the BMW International Open the following week, and notched his first of three straight top-tens with a T-3 finish. RBC then T-4 at the Irish Open, and was solid again last week at the Scottish Open with a T-9 finish. He technically now made 12 cuts in a row, and his form on the other side of the pond has been incredible heading into Royal Portrush.
