MLB DFS Pitching Primer: Cash Game Ace

Lance Lynn (9.8k FD, 11.2k DK) vs. Arizona

Yeah, I don’t think I ever dreamed I’d have Lance Lynn as the safest and best play on a slate when this season began, but here we are in the middle of July and that’s exactly what has happened. You simply can’t argue with the results that Lynn has put up in his first season in Texas as he and fellow rotation mate Mike Minor have given the Rangers some badly needed stability in their rotation.

Lynn has been able to pitch deep into games this season and his manager is allowing to go well over 100 pitches in his starts, something we don’t see that often in baseball. He’s pitched six innings or more in his last 13 starts and seven innings or more in his last five.

That’s impressive and the fact that he has been able to eat all those innings and battle out there has been huge for his team. It also gives him a great floor in DFS, too.

Tonight he’s at home and while it’s a great ballpark for hitters in Arlington, he’s posted nearly identical numbers at home as on the road. He’s in the middle of a pretty impressive stretch right now as he’s allowed only two earned runs over his last 22 innings against good teams (Tampa, L.A. Angels, and Houston). He’s also won five straight starts.

It might seem like a lot to pay for Lynn, but you know you’re going to get a guy who can pitch deep into the game, and who has a great chance to grab a quality start and a win.

He’s a home favorite and has the potential for some strikeouts against the D-Backs who have been striking out a lot lately. Fire up my favorite big righty tonight (Lynn is 6’5″, 280 pounds) in cash games and GPPs!
