MLB DFS Pitching Primer: GPP Pivot #2

Andrew Cashner (8k FD, 8.3k DK) vs. Toronto

Cashner is making his Red Sox debut tonight and it just happens that he will get to face the Blue Jays, a team he’s had great success against this season and in his career.

The big righty (6′ 6″, 235 pounds) has enjoyed a pretty solid campaign this year for Baltimore and landed himself a gig with a contender as the fifth starter in Boston. He’s not usually a guy I want to use in DFS, but is usually someone I avoid stacking against and I know I’ve warned you against doing that here in this column before.

Cashner will face a Toronto team at Fenway that is carrying a 24% strikeout rate this season. He’s 2-0 against the Jays this year with a 0.69 ERA. Vegas loves him as he’s a -190 favorite and like Pineda, I think he will get plenty of run support from the big bats in this Boston lineup.

I don’t play narratives that often (really try to avoid them as much as possible) but I do think that the big guy has to be fired up to be pitching for a good team after toiling away for San Diego, Texas, and Baltimore the last 7 years.
