FanDuel MLB – Top Catchers / First Basemen

Top Play: Gary Sanchez | NYY | $3,900

I expect the Yankees to be a chalky offense and Gary Sanchez should be a key cog given the fact that he’s $500 too cheap. He gets to tee off against lefty Kyle Freeland, who’s been downright horrendous this season, allowing a 0.376 wOBA, 45.4% hard-contact rate and 13 of his 16 total HRs allowed to righties.

On the flip side of this, Sanchez has rocked an elite 0.367 wOBA, 0.290 ISO and 43.2% hard-contact rate against righties this season. If you have the salary to spare, Sanchez is your man at the position.

Value Play: Matt Adams | WAS | $2,800

While we didn’t get the lefties against Teheran as we had originally hoped last night, Adams gets his chance again tonight.

Teheran has struggled against LHH throughout his career and over the past two seasons has allowed a 0.329 wOBA against lefties while only striking out 19.3%. He’s improved a bit compared to earlier in his career against lefties, but the glaring issue comes with his lack of control (15.8% walk rate over 2018-19 vs LHH) and his 41.6% hard-contact rate.

Adams himself carries a 0.322 wOBA, but a 0.262 ISO against righties with a 47.8% fly-ball rate and a 43.5% hard-contact rate, making him an elite value in all formats.

Honorable Mention(s): Edwin Encarnacion, Yasmani Grandal, Joey Votto, Ji-Man Choi
