MLB DFS Pitching Primer: FanDuel Value Plays

***NOTE: THESE PITCHERS CAN BE USED ON DK, TOO, THEY ARE JUST BETTER VALUES ON FANDUEL.

Marcus Stroman (6.8k) @ Detroit

Stroman’s price on FanDuel is a head-scratcher as he is 9k on Draftkings. He’s never a sexy DFS option because he is a ground-ball pitcher (and one of the best in the game, I’ll add) whose season-high in strikeouts in 7. But he certainly can still post a big score with his ability to pitch deep into games and shut down offenses.

Tonight’s matchup with the Tigers is ideal as they are really right-handed heavy. Stroman is great against righties, getting them to roll over his sinker and get ground ball outs. He shut them out back in March with seven strikeouts over seven innings and I see no reason why he can’t come close to replicating that performance again. He’s also being shopped to contenders here before the deadline and knows he is out there auditioning for teams. His ticket out of Toronto is by showing out in these next few starts.

Jaime Barria (6.1k) @ Seattle

Don’t get hung up on Barria’s 5.22 ERA, it’s badly inflated by one terrible outing way back in April in which he allowed 7 earned runs in less than two innings. Since being called back up from the minors, Barria has looked great, allowing only 4 earned runs in 15 innings while making three starts for the Angels.

He struck out 20 batters in those 15 innings and has shown some nice control, too, walking only four. I like him in this matchup with Seattle, a team that is vulnerable to strikeouts (25% K rate). He’s posted 30, 30, and 39 FD points in his last three starts and if he can do that again tonight he would be an excellent value and allow you to stack your favorite high-priced offenses
