FanDuel MLB DFS Breakdown – 7/20: Kershaw’s Going Fishing
By Joe Metz
FanDuel MLB – Top Outfielders
Top Play: Mike Trout | LAA | $4,900
I never would have guessed that the Angels, especially Mike Trout, would get embarrassed by Mike Leake last night, but hey, that’s MLB DFS for you. Trout continues to look healthier and healthier as he nurses a sore calf and steps into the game tonight with the platoon advantage against Yusei Kikuchi.
As mentioned in the Fletcher blurb, Kikuchi has allowed a 0.350 wOBA to righties and is only striking them out at a 16.3% clip. That bodes horribly against the best baseball player of my generation, as Trout has posted a 0.413 wOBA, 0.273 ISO and a 20.5% walk rate against lefties this season. He’s the top overall batter on the slate and I don’t feel that it is particularly close.
Value Play: Corey Dickerson | PIT | $2,600
The final, and perhaps my favorite piece of the Pirates LHH stack is the contact-machine Corey Dickerson. In his limited playing time this season, he’s posted a 0.355 wOBA and 0.217 ISO against RHP while only striking out 18.5% of the time. I hate to beat a dead horse here, but Zach Eflin is not good against lefties (0.374 wOBA, 0.276 ISO allowed).
The icing on the cake in this matchup comes via Eflin’s pitch arsenal. Aside from the 4-seam fastball, he throws his slider more than any other pitch against lefties (28.03% of the time). Not only does Corey Dickerson hold a 0.381 wOBA against the SL, he also holds a 0.295 ISO and a 37.1% hard-contact rate against the pitch. He checks in as my favorite overall value play on the slate and I would be shocked to see him over 15% owned in cash games.
Honorable Mention(s): Mookie Betts, Cody Bellinger, J.D. Martinez, Justin Upton, Andrew Benintendi, Oscar Mercado, Josh Reddick, Jake Bauers
