Fantasy Football Player Profile: Marlon Mack

Worst Case Scenario

I do have to wonder if the Colts lean on the passing game a little bit more this season. It might not be out of necessity, but when you have Andrew Luck, it’s easy to want to throw the ball around the yard. Indy brought in Devin Funchess(laugh all you want, he’s an improvement on Zach Pascal and Ryan Grant) and drafted receiver Paris Campbell. If they start running more 11 personnel(3 receivers, 1 tight end, 1 running back), Hines appears to be who they trust in the passing game. It’s pretty tough to score from the sideline.

More from Fantasy

Neither Mack nor Hines was a big spend in draft capital. They were both fourth-round picks so if Mack comes in with an attitude of the job is already his, that could open the door. That shouldn’t happen at all and I doubt it does. Mack clearly has the talent but can he score nearly a touchdown a game again? With added weaponry, the running game might not be the focus for the Colts.

Mack was also a bit inconsistent from the yardage totals. He did have five games that were under 50 rushing yards and he only found the end zone twice in those five games. Sometimes, the seasonal finish hides week to week issues. It would be nice to not have to worry about riding the roller coaster-like you did in Weeks 13-16. Mack went for 33 yards and a touch, 139 yards and 2 TD’s, 34 yards and 1 TD and then finished with 119 yards and a TD. The touchdowns saved you bacon those weeks.

Takeaway

You can argue some of the mild concerns laid out in the worst-case scenario, but mild is the correct way to describe it. I truly think Mack is on the verge of a big year and Indy jumps into the top five n scoring offenses this year. Even if they stay stagnant, Mack should see 220 carries and 25-30 receptions if he plays 14 games or more. Sign me up for that as the RB16 in drafts all day and he fits either as a great RB2 or an RB1 on a team that drafts receivers earlier.
