MLB DFS Pitching Plays

Griffin Canning – Alright it’s finally time for the cover boy, and I know ThunderDan would approve of this play. I have made a stand on Canning since they called him up, this kid has some serious potential, and will be a star in this league at some point. He is a member of the exclusive Fastball club, where his Fastball moves over 10 inches vertically, and has a velocity of at least 95 MPH. Two really bad starts prompted FanDuel to drop his price dramatically to 6.9K. That is just a slap in the face if you ask me, especially when you look at all of his other games this season, the two bad games were against Houston, and the Rangers. Either way we can take advantage of this. Canning gets a match-up with Seattle, who now has a 25% K rate, 40% GB rate, and only 35% HC. He will see six LHH, where his numbers are basically identical on both sides of the plate. High K numbers, lower GB rate, and average HC.

Pitch Mix – Griffin uses the Fastball the most at around 45%, then the Slider, and Change both 20% of the time, with the Curve 10%. The whiffs have been down recently on everything, especially the Fastball which is troubling. The FB rate is also up, but all of these numbers are likely due to his last two outings. I do not see any glaring movement or velocity concerns on anything. His walk rate was way up in his last game, which got him into big trouble. If he can decrease that rate slightly, Canning could have a really big game.
