FanDuel MLB – Top Second Basemen

Top Play: Jose Altuve | HOU | $4,000

It’s taken a while for Altuve to get his feet back under him, but he’s recorded 4 multi-hit performances in his last 5 games and has now hit a home run in back to back outings.

His 0.291 wOBA against righties this season doesn’t exactly paint the whole picture as he’s been struggling with injury. If you expand that over the last two seasons, that increases to 0.350 with a 14.4% strikeout rate.

His matchup, Homer Bailey, has defied all types of regression and physics this season as he’s avoided most blow-ups but has still allowed a 0.341 wOBA to RHH with a 44.5% hard-contact rate. This price feels a bit cheap for Altuve and he checks all of the boxes that you look for in a top play tonight.

Value Play: Brian Dozier | WAS | $2,700

Circling back to the Nationals here, Dozier doesn’t bat from the left side of the plate but has actually produced some impressive reverse-splits this season. Against righties, he’s rocking a 0.162 ISO with a 40.4% hard-contact rate and steps into a juicy matchup with Peter Lambert of the Rockies.

While Lambert has gotten crushed by lefties, righties haven’t been too much kinder on him. He’s allowed a 0.358 wOBA and a 0.211 ISO on the season with a strikeout rate of only 12%, virtually eliminating Dozier’s biggest flaw. He checks in as one of my top overall value plays on the slate.
