FanDuel MLB – Top Third Basemen

Top Play: DJ LeMahieu | NYY | $4,000

While Edwin Encarnacion may be the top 1B play, DJL checks in not only as my top 3B, but my top NYY play on the slate.

He’s in the midst of an MVP-caliber season and has posted a 0.401 wOBA and 0.182 ISO against left-handed pitching this season while only striking out at a 14.4% clip.

Martin Perez has a diverse arsenal of pitches and throws his cutter (FC) 31% of the time against righties, the most out of any pitch. Against specifically the cutter, LeMahieu has posted a 0.419 wOBA since 2016 while keeping his whiff rate down to 16.3%, the second-lowest on the team.

If you can get to DJL tonight, I would highly recommend locking him in, as he feels like one of the safest bats on the slate.

Value Play: Tommy Edman | STL | $2,900

Tommy Edman has burst onto the scene since getting consistent playing time and has been one of the few bright spots in what has been a rather disappointing stretch for the Cardinals.

He’s been getting tons of at-bats out of the leadoff role and has crushed righties to the tune of a 0.349 wOBA with a 0.241 ISO and 46.5% hard-contact rate. He’ll match up with Trevor Williams of the Pirates tonight, who’s allowed a 0.377 wOBA to lefties and has struggled to strike them out (15.0% K rate) while giving up a decent amount of hard contact (38.9%).

This is a phenomenal value play and one that I fully plan to mini-stack with another Cardinals value play in the outfield, who I will get to momentarily.

Honorable Mention(s): Anthony Rendon, Jose Ramirez, Renato Nunez, Brian Anderson
