MLB DFS: Simmering Sluggers- Week of 7/22-7/28- SS, OF

SHORTSTOP

Elvis Andrus, TEX

Batting Line for 7/11-7/21: .138 average (4-for-29), three RBI, three walks, two stolen bases, two runs

  • Line-Drive Rate from 7/11-7/21: 26.1 percent
  • Hard-Contact Rate from 7/11-7/21: 26.1 percent
  • BABIP from 7/11-7/21: .174
  • Plate Appearances from 7/11-7/21: 33

Quick analysis: Andrus has cooled off considerably after a blistering start to the season overall, but the funk he’s been in thus far in the second half could be set to lift.

The veteran shortstop has been putting solid wood on the ball with mostly frustrating results, as evidenced by his above-average LD rate and abysmal batting line and BABIP over the same span.

With five pitchers that Andrus owns .300-plus lifetime averages against on his ledger this coming week, look for Lady Luck to start smiling on Andrus for the first time since the All-Star break.

OUTFIELD

Josh Reddick, HOU

Batting Line from 7/11-7/21: .219 average (7-for-32), three RBI, three walks, two runs

  • Line-Drive Rate from 7/11-7/21: 26.7 percent
  • Hard-Contact Rate from 7/11-7/21: 30.0 percent
  • BABIP from 7/11-7/21: .233
  • Plate Appearances from 7/11-7/21: 36

Quick analysis: Reddick should have more than just seven singles since the All-Star break to show for the LD rate he’s managed over that stretch, but his .233 BABIP has been a bit of an albatross.

Reddick’s scheduled starting pitching match-ups this week don’t include any of the same-handed scenarios he thrives so much in, but he does get three of the road games he actually hits much better in (.307), and does so against three Cardinals pitchers that have never faced him before.

ALSO CONSIDER: Harold Ramirez, MIA; Joc Pederson, LAD; Byron Buxton, MIN (*still on IL as of Monday, 7/22)
