Daily Fantasy Golf: FanDuel Picks – WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational
Daily Fantasy Golf: FanDuel PGA – Mid Tier Picks ($10,000-$11,000)
Patrick Cantlay – $10,900 – (Cash)
I have stated it here in my articles here at FantasyCPR and now FanSided Fantasy many times over the last year-plus that I believe more in course history and recent form more than some strokes gained stats. There is a whole slew of factors that go into this, but it is mostly about how much these golfers and golf courses change day-to-day, not to mention the immeasurable mental aspect of golf.
What I am getting to, is that while I do favor course history and recent form above all, I still use stats, I just do not weigh them as heavily as others. One stat I always consider on par 70 courses like TPC Southwind though, is par four scoring. Cantlay is the best on tour in this stat, averaging 3.95 strokes on 61 total rounds thus far in 2019.
On top of being the leader in the key stat this week, Cantlay has been extremely consistent posting good finishes, aside from his hiccup last week at the 148th Open Championship. He only broke even par once in four rounds at Royal Portrush, and a 74 on Sunday led to a T-41 finish at the final major of the year.
I think he bounces back well here in his first crack at TPC Southwind, and we see him back among the leaders this week by the end of the day on Sunday. Cantlay is my top cash play this week, as I feel getting four guaranteed rounds from him at this price is too good not to anchor my cash team with.
Xander Schauffele – $10,800 – (GPP)
In basically the same mold as Cantlay, Schauffele is another golfer I have high hopes for this week. With McIlroy, Koepka, and even DJ all struggling for different reasons, Xander has also been one of the best golfers on tour all season, with his early win at the Sentry TOC, and his solid performances in every major. Last week at the Open Championship was his worst, and that nasty wind on Sunday was a large part of the drop down the leaderboard.
Schauffele shot a 78 on Sunday, and if it wasn’t for his impressive 65 on Friday, he would have finished a lot worse than T-41. He came into Royal Portrush off of a T-14 at the Memorial Tournament, followed by a T-3 at the U.S. Open, and we have yet another golfer here I feel could be over $11K, and would still be in play. I think Tommy Fleetwood gets more attention than Cantlay and Schauffele here after his solo second last week, and my belief is that pivoting away from Fleetwood at this price point will be the right play this week.
