1.10 – T.J. Hockenson (TE – Detroit Lions)

T.J. Hockenson, like Marquise Brown and A.J. Brown above is a player that appears to have lost some value based on his landing spot. Naysayers point to Matt Patricia’s commitment to the run, Hockenson’s elite blocking skill set and a lack of production at the position under Stafford as reasons Hock may have taken a value hit.

His supporters posit that a player with his skill set playing for a coach who saw Rob Gronkowski up close and personal on a daily basis will know just how to unleash the elite talents of the tight end. Hockenson is going to be a pro bowl tight end, but the question is will he see enough volume to be a fantasy star.

Coming off of the board before Noah Fant in many dynasty rookie drafts, Hockenson may see his upside capped due to being an elite blocker in both the running and passing games. He should immediately assume the starting role in Detroit, but will likely frustratingly cede snaps to Jesse James in his rookie season.

An elite all around tight end prospect, Hockenson can become a fantasy star if he can earn Matthew Stafford’s trust. Stafford does not exactly have a history of coaxing top end fantasy seasons out of his tight ends, but for all of Eric Ebron’s talent, Stafford has never had one who projects to be as reliable as Hockenson. Perhaps the most talented offensive player Stafford has played with since Calvin Johnson, Hockenson is an instant TE1 in dynasty formats.
