FanDuel MLB – Top Pitchers

Top Play: Noah Syndergaard | NYM | $10,000

I fully expect most individuals to look at Corbin and Bieber and completely overlook Noah Syndergaard, which I think will be a huge mistake. While Thor hasn’t been his vintage self on a consistent basis, he certainly has been over his last two starts.

Per Tim Britton of The Athletic, he hasn’t allowed a hit on a single slider that he’s thrown (47) over his past two starts and over that span, he’s posted a 34% whiff rate on said pitch. On top of that, he’s striking out RHH at a 26.3% clip while holding them to a 25.8% hard-contact rate (28.2% hard-contact rate overall).

The Padres, while more dangerous than years prior, are still an extremely impatient offense that projects to roll out 7 RHH tonight. As a team against right-handed pitching, they’re striking out at a 24.7% rate. On top of that, against the slider in particular, not a single player in their lineup has a whiff rate below 27%, while 3 of them have whiff rates over 40%.

If Syndergaard brings the same stuff that he has over his last two starts, the Padres implied total of 3.9 runs may end up being rather generous. He’s my favorite overall pitcher on the slate.

Value Play: Zac Gallen | MIA | $6,800

If you’re looking to load up on bats tonight, Zac Gallen brings a heap of upside to the table for an extremely inexpensive price. While he’s failed to pitch past the 6th inning in any start this season, his 26.3% strikeout rate paired with the fact that he’s allowed wOBAs of 0.325 vs RHH and 0.276 vs LHH give reason for optimism.

On top of that, the White Sox have been striking out a ton against righties (25.4%) and have failed to muster up much in general on the offensive end (0.312 wOBA, 0.157 ISO). Their 34.6% team hard-contact rate should somewhat mitigate Gallen’s 39.0% hard-contact rate allowed and the fact that Gallen checks in as the -121 favorite shows that Vegas has some faith in him holding it down tonight.

There is a level of risk involved in this play, but the upside at his price cannot be argued with

Honorable Mention(s): Patrick Corbin, Shane Bieber, Dinelson Lamet
