FanDuel MLB – Top Catchers / First Basemen

Top Play: Joc Pederson | LAD | $3,600

Get ready for a Dodgers-filled article, starting with leadoff man Joc Pederson.

On the season, Pederson has crushed right-handed pitching to the tune of a 0.388 wOBA, 0.322 ISO and a 45.6% hard contact rate. On top of that, Pederson’s biggest weakness is usually his tendency to strike out at a high clip, but he’s only striking out at an 18.6% clip against righties this season.

His matchup, Jaime Barria, has allowed a 0.374 wOBA and 0.231 ISO to lefties this season and an average exit velocity of 89.8mph, over 1mph above league average.

Value Play: Howie Kendrick | WAS | $2,300

While Pederson may have the most upside of any first baseman on the slate, I see no reason why I wouldn’t lock in Howie Kendrick across the board. With Ryan Zimmerman heading back to the IL right after Kendrick is returning, he should begin to see a heavy uptick in playing time, especially against lefties and he gets one in Kyle Freeland tonight.

Freeland has been awful this season, allowing a 0.396 wOBA and 0.284 ISO to right-handed batters with a 42.5% hard-contact rate. On the flip side, Kendrick has smoked southpaws this year, posting a 0.434 wOBA and a 0.247 ISO. He checks in as my top overall value play on the slate tonight.

Honorable Mention(s): Josh Bell, Freddie Freeman, Paul Goldschmidt, Garrett Cooper
