Daily Fantasy Baseball: Top Value Plays – Fantasy Draft

IF/OF – Marwin Gonzalez – Minnesota Twins – $6,300

I did not quite go down to #FreeSquare (copyright @2locksports) range today for Fantasy Draft,  but I do see a couple of guys that are starting to hit a bit, and are pretty darn close. Let’s start with Twins ultra utility man Marwin Gonzalez, who connected on a 420 foot shot to center field off of J.A. Happ in the fourth inning of the grueling series with the Yankees.

Minnesota will travel to Chicago to face White Sox budding ace Lucas Giolito, and Gonzalez is 2-for-8 in their previous meetings. He has now hit safely in eight of his last ten games after last night’s home run, which was his 12th of the season. The Twins will have their hands full, but Giolito has been coming back to earth to a bit, and being he has never pitched this deep in a season in his young career.

Gonzalez has been a bitter hitter for average from the right side of the plate versus lefties, but nine of his 12 homers on the season have been coming from the left side of the plate, against right-handed pitching.

OF – Bubba Starling – Kansas City Royals – $6,300

I hate playing hitters against my pitchers, and there is a part of me that is leaning towards using Indians starter Adam Plutko tonight in Kansas City against the Royals. However, former top prospect Bubba Starling continues to impress at the plate, and he is still not getting much of a price bump yet across the industry. We only have a six-game slate to work with here, and I will get to Plutko later, but both are offering some serious value on a slate that is lacking it for the most part.

The 26-year-old Starling was the fifth overall pick in the 2011 draft, but he has been on the slow track to the big leagues. He finally made his major league debut after the all-star break, after compiling a .310 batting average with seven home runs in AAA for the first half of the season. He went hitless in debut but has hit safely in every game since extending his streak to eight games last night with a ground-rule double in the 2nd inning off of Braves starter Julio Teheran.
