How to make the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles relevant again
Defend the women’s tag titles on all brands
When Bayley and Sasha Banks became inaugural Women’s Tag Team Champions they meant to be fighting champions who defended their titles across all brands. The duo even showed up to their old stomping grounds of NXT to make that statement known. The IIconics haven’t even defended their titles at a pay-per-view, let alone crossing brands. It’s part of their shtick to be humorous but eventually wrestlers need to wrestle.
There’s plenty of talent waiting down in NXT that could become great contenders for those WWE Women’s Tag Team titles. Kacey Catanzaro and Candice LeRae have been a strong duo who previously staked their claim on the titles. Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir came in together as part of the MMA version of the Four Horsewomen. NXT UK has a crop of talent waiting in the wings as well. Neither of those brands have their own women’s tag titles yet and it’s probably not likely that they will get them anytime soon.
Having whoever the champs are at the time crossing brands to defend the women’s tag titles would bring interest to the other brands because audiences would want to follow what’s been happening with the tag titles. You could even bring up the NXT or NXT UK girls to the main roster for a one-off match.
This would help build the women’s tag division as well because there’d be more talent to have matches with. The important thing is that the titles are in play and being showcased, not held hostage for backstage segments or not shown at all.
It could also add interest if the WWE Women’s Tag Team titles are won by an NXT or NXT UK team. This builds up the teams on their own brand and allows other teams from the main roster to go on the hunt to bring the titles back. There are many different story lines that could be factored in by floating the titles across all brands. It’s never been done before and it could bring significant and much-needed interest to the WWE Women’s Tag Team titles.
