MLB DFS Pitching Primer: FanDuel Value Pitcher

Daniel Norris (6.1k FD) @ Seattle

I left the picture of Griffin Canning up here because he was going to be my value pick on FanDuel at 6.6k, but he ended up pitching two innings in last night’s 16-inning loss to Baltimore so he will likely have his next start bumped back a day or two. He ended up giving up 5 runs in two innings, so maybe this is a blessing in disguise and he was going to be a trap anyways.

Norris is facing fellow lefty Yusei Kikuchi in this battle of basement dwellers tonight and both lefties are dirt cheap and have positive matchups. I am going to roll with Norris here because, believe it or not, I like his strikeout upside and chances at picking up a win in this game.

Norris may have an ERA over 5, but his xFIP is 4.50 and he’s pretty well at times this season. He doesn’t walk guys and improved his strikeout rate to 19%.

The Mariners have been hitting the ball recently, but still strikeout over 25% of the time and are slightly weaker against LHP, too. It’s not a play that I’m very excited about, but if you need someone under 7k on FanDuel then Norris is now my favorite of the cheap options since Canning is no longer viable.
