Lucas Hernandez (Bayern Munich from Atletico Madrid)

Atletico Madrid saw another Frenchman leave the roster with the departure of 23-year-old full back Lucas Hernandez.

Hernandez broke through the youth ranks at Atletico in 2014 and went on to collect 67 appearances for the club. Like Griezmann, Hernandez is a World Cup champion and hopes to help the Bundesliga club to Champions League glory this season.

The $90 million fee is a record for a Bayern signing and continues a tradition by the Bavarian giants of going after French players. The signing did not come without a hitch. During Hernandez’s physical, it was revealed that he had a knee injury that required surgery. Nonetheless, Hernandez is expected to play starting next month in time for the start of the season.

“This is a really important day in my footballing career,” Hernandez told Bayern’s official website. “FC Bayern Munich is one of the best clubs in Europe and the world. I’m proud to be able to fight for all possible titles with Bayern.”
