Fantasy Football: Rules to Follow & Break

You will often hear people preaching rules to follow with some sports but there are always exceptions to the rule. One rule I’ve heard is to not stack a WR with an RB or a QB with an RB but that was a few years ago and things have already changed. A handful of RBs are getting as many targets as a WR2 (or more) so of course, you’ll want to target that RB in both DFS and season long. But then you have to think about who is providing those targets (hint: QB) and if that RB catches a TD as opposed to rushing one in, you’re double-dipping.

Stacking the QB with guys is a must. If there’s a WR or TE on that same team in a high total game…all of a sudden you’re looking at all kinds of correlation. If your QB throws for 3 TDs, 2 of which go to 2 guys on your team, that adds up quickly to 24 points not taking into account any PPR or yardage and assuming 4pts for passing TDs and 6 for receiving. This concept is more common in DFS since you can target matchups on a weekly basis which is incredibly important.

The teams I put here to stack with are not in any particular order. Some are more in the “sneaky stack” category and will likely go overlooked while others are going to have players that are more popular. Remember to take into account individual pieces of a stack are going to be really popular when drafting your season long leagues. You may have to reach on a guy if you want to complete a stack that you believe in. Also, for the purposes of this exercise, I think it’s best we take a look at 3 man stacks which will always be comprised of the QB and then some combination of 2 of the RB/WR/TE.

Again, I’m a firm believer this can work in season-long if you get a prolific enough offense and this is a proven strategy in DFS that is not always utilized correctly. I’ll name the more popular fantasy football stacks at the end but for the most part, I anticipate being able to draft the following stacks in season-long and also plan on leveraging them in DFS depending on their salaries and matchups.
