FanDuel MLB – Top Catchers / First Basemen

Top Play: Joc Pederson | LAD | $4,200

Get ready for a heap of Dodgers, because the best offense in the NL is in Coors Field. While Jon Gray carries higher upside than most Rockies’ pitchers, he’s still allowed a 42.3% hard-contact rate and a 0.444 SLG% against lefties when in Coors Field. On top of that, his strikeout rate dips to 21.6% and his walk rate rises above 11%.

Pederson has crushed righties this season, posting a 0.386 wOBA, 0.309 ISO and 45.7% hard-contact rate while striking out under 20% of the time. If you can get all the way up, he makes a ton of sense in both cash games and GPPs.

Value Play: Will Smith | LAD | $3,000

If you don’t want to pay all the way up, or even roster two Dodgers C/1Bs, Will Smith makes a ton of sense and I expect him to garner a heap of ownership given his recent surge.

In his limited 32 at-bats on the season, he’s hitting 0.344 with 4 HRs and 12 RBIs. Against righties specifically (again, small sample size), he’s posted a 0.536 wOBA and a 0.625 ISO. These are clearly not sustainable, but they illustrate the current tear he is on.

He comes in at only $3,000 in Coors Field and while he’ll likely hit towards the bottom of the lineup, I see no reason to not lock him into your cash games.

Honorable Mention(s): Daniel Murphy, Josh Bell (way too cheap), Joey Votto
